Francis began Square Dancing in 1989 with the then Summerland Square Dance Club at Alstonville NSW with Roy Stokes as the caller. When Roy retired, the club merged with the Lismore Larrikins and became the Summerland Larrikins Square Dance Club with Wilma Flannery as Caller. Francis started calling in 1992 with Wilma teaching her all she knows and then also going to Brian Hotchkies Caller Schools in Casino NSW. She has been an associate caller since 1992 and now club caller since 2007. Clubs are Ballina Waves Square Dance Club and Northern Waves Lismore Square Dance Club.
Francis met her husband John McAlister at her place of employment and persuaded him to learn to Square Dance and they both dance at Summerland Larrikins on a Friday night.
